About the Studio

We think
before we
build.

VAUX Studio was founded in New York City in 2011 by architect Elena Vaux, following a decade at Adjaye Associates and Snøhetta. The studio operates on a single conviction: great architecture is the result of rigorous thinking, not aesthetic trend-chasing.

Our practice spans residential, cultural, hospitality, and workplace projects across the US and internationally. We are a deliberately mid-sized studio — large enough to handle complex commissions, small enough to give every project genuine creative attention.

We design for the long term. Every project we deliver is meant to age with grace, hold its character, and serve its inhabitants better with each passing year.

Principle 01
Form follows meaning, not fashion
Principle 02
Context is the best brief
Principle 03
Details are the architecture
Principle 04
Durability over spectacle

How We Work

Our process

01
Brief & Discovery

We listen carefully, visit the site, and study context — physical, social, historical — before putting pencil to paper.

02
Concept Design

We develop the architectural idea: form, structure, materiality, light. The concept is tested against the brief at every step.

03
Design Development

Concept becomes detail. We resolve every joint, threshold, and surface. Consultants are coordinated into a single coherent vision.

04
Construction

We administer the build, make site visits, respond to queries, and ensure the built result matches the designed intent.

05
Handover

Post-occupancy review, photography, documentation. We stay reachable — good buildings need care, and we care about ours.

Client Words
"VAUX understood our brief more clearly than we had articulated it. They didn't just design a building — they designed an experience. Every time I walk in, I feel it was worth every conversation, every revision, every decision."
